The Great Rift Valley in East Africa is known for producing some of the finest tea leaves in the world. Here, tea is grown at a high altitude with a lot of rain and in red volcanic soil. At this high altitude, low temperatures cause tea leaves to grow at a slower rate, developing a greater depth of flavor and more powerful antioxidants. The tea is naturally grown without pesticides as pests can’t survive the climate at such high altitudes.
This makes a rich, smooth tea that is never bitter. Perfect for that first morning cup of tea or afternoon pick-me up.
Choose from our selection of farmer-direct teas from Africa’s leading tea producers. They are all grown at high altitudes, carefully hand-picked and share a distinctive bold and smooth taste but each tea has a unique character shaped by its specific micro-climate.
Countries Featured: KENYA, RWANDA, MALAWI, MOZAMBIQUE
KENYA has two distinct tea regions, East and West of the Rift Valley. We feature Tea from both origins. Meru is on the East side of the Rift Valley and its climate is influenced by the proximity of Mt.Kenya. Kericho is the main tea growing region in Kenya with a favorable location in the heart of the Rift Valley.
